Build your email list every day with 5 powerful strategies

‘The money is in the list”. How many times have you heard that before? I’m guessing PLENTY! But you know what, it’s true. Through your email list, you can serve your audience and build a deeper connection with them. You can find out more about them and you can also effectively use your email list to sell more of your products and services.

I’m sure you’ve seen lots of stats before about email marketing, but it’s value needs re-stating. If you’re on the fence and wondering whether it’s worth your time check these out;

  • B2C marketers who use email automation have seen conversion rates as high as 50% – eMarketer
  • Email marketing has an ROI of 3800% – DMA
  • The average order value of an email is at least three times higher than that of social media – McKinsey
  • For every $1 spent, email marketing generates $44 in ROI – Campaign Monitor

Now, are you a believer?! Email list building might not be as sexy as going live or shooting videos or countless other things you can do to move your business forward. But it remains one of the most important things you can do and that’s why you should focus on strategies to help you build your email list every week (or day!).

As entrepreneurs who are actively growing their list, we’ve tried many different strategies when it comes to list building. Today we’re sharing 5 cool things we focus on to grow our email list every day.

Create a fun quiz to build your email list

A fun and popular way to build your email list is to create an online quiz. We’ve ALL been sucked into a Buzzfeed quiz at one time or another, admit it…. So we know first hand how strong the desire to know which breed of dog you’re most like can be. It’s irresistible! Humans are curious creatures and we LOVE finding out more about ourselves, this isn’t restricted to important life-altering things. The curiosity shows up in our NEED to understand which celeb we should marry (Channing Tatum, obvs….).

Your quiz doesn’t have to be completely trivial. It could share the first step someone needs to take before working with you. Maybe you help moms get fit, the quiz could show them which fitness plan would work for their personality type. Then from this, you can segment them in your email list software and provide content that’s suited to their type and their specific needs.

A quiz is fun to complete and helps people connect with your brand. They get information about themselves which they didn’t know and you get to understand more about your potential customers.

You can place your quiz on your site or share it directly on social media. It needn’t be difficult to create a quiz. We use Interact which is an awesome tool to take the strain out of building a quiz. They have template quizzes, so you can be set up and getting leads in no time at all.

You can use your quiz to segment your existing subscribers too, so they can get the specific help they need.

Using ads to promote your free content

Most people only use paid ads when they’re selling something. Instead, why not run your ads to free valuable content to help widen your reach and get more eyeballs on your business.

This builds trust and serves your audience. So when they’re ready to purchase something in the future, they’ll think of you. If your ads are running to an opt-in, then by opting in those people are pre-qualifying themselves for your offer (if the freebie is congruent). You could also use retargeting ads to pitch the offer to those who opted in.

Ads to get a subscriber sign up are often cheaper than to get a sale. Therefore, it’s sensible to invest in ads to get subscribers, then use your emails to warm the subscriber up. Give them value and hopefully convert them.

Improve your content

There’s probably 7588,999,123 freebies on the internet and yours will be 7588,999,124…. A sobering thought! With so much free content out there, it’s harder than ever to get subscribers. People have so much choice and they are getting a little protective over their email addresses.

What you can’t do is produce a half-assed freebie and then whine because no-one signs up…. You need to be smarter and to be smart you need to create a freebie that’s so good you could charge for it.

It doesn’t have to be a huge course (in fact a quick win is always better for an opt-in freebie). But it has to be valuable and of high quality. Something that’ll really help your target audience.

So, why not try a new freebie and see how your audience responds. Don’t just stop there. Monitor how many people subscribe and then tweak or revamp it as needed. Create fewer freebies, but make sure they’re super valuable to your audience.

Run a challenge or webinar

One of the best ways to build your email list is to run a free challenge or a webinar, especially if you create hype around it.

Before these events, you’re getting everyone excited about the upcoming training. Then during the event, you’re offering crazy value and facilitating breakthroughs. You’re building a community around this event and that’s also appealing to people on the outside, who then want in.

The more value you can offer, the more likely the people will be to convert. If not right away, at some point in the future.

Events are an awesome way to refresh, boost your list growth and love on your audience. The energy is awesome and the breakthroughs that can happen are even better.

Add a site pop-up

I know, I know, they’re a bit annoying. But here’s the kicker. They WORK! Adding a pop up to your site, which displays a valuable freebie WILL increase your email list.

Pop-ups are a way to get information in front of people. For example, you can add a pop-up promoting an email list building checklist to a post about email list building. The people clicking on that post are interested, so the pop-up shouldn’t annoy them, as it’s serving them and is relevant to what they want to learn more about.

Your email service provider might have the pop-up option built-in, so check yours out. Otherwise, you can easily get another tool to do it for you. The Elementor Plugin page builder has a pop-up function within the plugin. Or you can try a tool such as OptinMonster. They offer a setting that enables you to deliver different content in the pop up depending on where the traffic comes from.

Don’t forget existing subscribers!

If you don’t look after your existing subscribers they’ll subscribe and all your work building your list will go to waste.

Treat your subscribers like insiders. Give them freebies, advanced notice of events and anything else that makes it worthwhile for them to stay on your list. Show them that you value them.
